Welcome
Macmillan Coffee Morning – THANK YOU
A huge thank you to all our amazing parents, carers, students and staff who supported our Macmillan Coffee Morning on 13 October 2025. This event was another opportunity to come together as a school community to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that is very important to many of us.
It was lovely to see so many of you, and thanks to your support, we helped raise an amazing £120! Your generosity means a lot and will make a real difference.

We are delighted to have the opportunity to welcome you to the Learning Opportunities website.
Learning Opportunities is a small independent specialist school for students with a wide range of additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH), autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and moderate learning difficulties. We are registered to provide education for 36 students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP’s), aged 10 to 16 years of age (School Years 6-11).
All students have, for a variety of reasons, found it difficult to achieve their full potential in other settings. Often their schooling will have been chaotic and fragmented, resulting in them falling behind their peers academically, and as a result they relish the chance to succeed in our smaller and more personal setting.
At Learning Opportunities we pride ourselves in managing the wide ranging social, emotional, behavioural and educational needs of all our students, where they are supported within a consistent, caring and supportive environment. Our dedicated staff team, who have a range of expertise, are passionate about providing the best possible opportunities and outcomes for all of our students. Highly personalised programmes support students to develop the self-confidence to deal with the significant life changes and challenges they may encounter, and to become positive members of the school and wider community.
A key feature of what we do is teaching our students to take responsibility for their behaviour and its consequences. We work in partnership with parents, carers and other agencies to help students make positive choices and changes, which will serve them better in their future life. Many of our visitors comment on the positive ethos of the school – calm, focused and happy, where appropriate and positive relationships between staff and students are clearly evident.
To find out more about what we do, you can navigate around this web site using the tabs at the top of the page.
As a school we are always looking at ways to develop and become more effective, and ultimately to enhance the provision and opportunities available to our students. We would welcome any comments or suggestions you may have as to how this can be achieved. Please feel free to contact us for an informal discussion or to arrange a visit. We look forward to hearing from you!
Mission Statement
Learning Opportunities is a school that provides individuals with a safe and happy environment in which to learn. We aim for positive social and educational changes within our students, providing them with the opportunities to make a meaningful contribution within the school and wider community, thus enabling them to reach their full potential and to experience future social and economic well being.
School Council
Our school council includes all students and provides a platform for them to discuss, present and influence decisions to enhance the school community.
This process empowers students by making them feel heard, which we believe promotes a more inclusive and democratic environment that aligns with the school’s overall ethos.
Towards the end of the summer 2025 term, students voted on, and agreed, a revised set of whole school values, which are actively understood and embedded within the wider school community. The values that were agreed are:
Tolerance
Courage
Friendship
Respect
Patience
These underpin our whole school ethos.
